Barbara Hendrickson, of BAX Securities Law has announced her candidacy in the Law Society of Ontario’s (LSO) 2019 Bencher Election.
The Benchers, who sit on the LSO’s Convocation, play a vital role in determining policy and guidance regarding Ontario’s lawyers and paralegals. Benchers also sit on committees to adjudicate lawyer and paralegal conduct, as well as matters of licencing and competency.
Ms. Hendrickson’s platform includes: taking action against systemic and individual discrimination within the legal profession; improving access to Legal Aid for the public; and, improving support for small law firms and sole practitioners.
“As a profession,” she notes, “we face numerous challenges, some historical, but many having emerged more recently. Our Law Society’s role in meeting these challenges is to govern in a way that both meets its public interest mandate and ensures that we have a viable profession going forward.”
